Changjiang Australia is a family-owned business, headed up by Dereck Marques. Dereck has motorcycles in his DNA. His father and grandfather were qualified engineers by trade, avid motorcyclists and car enthusiasts and passed their passion for anything with wheels on to Dereck. After completing a three-year motor vehicle mechanic apprenticeship working on light and heavy vehicles and motorcycles, Dereck joined the General Motors Experimental Department working on and testing systems on prototype vehicles, and subsequently engine testing and development in the engine dyno laboratories. After completing his studies in mechanical and transport engineering, Dereck moved into management roles in Product Engineering, and Aftersales, heading up the national Field Operations Service department before taking the senior role of Motorsport Manager for Opel Racing South Africa. After successfully guiding the team through the introduction of the South African BTCC Touring Car series (SATCAR), achieving an overall championship win in its first year, Dereck moved into the General Motors Product Planning area as a Vehicle Platform manager in South Africa and Brazil, at which time he also completed his Masters in Business Administration.

Thoroughly familiar with the process of developing a new vehicle from planning and prototyping through to final product, Dereck has extensive experience in compliance and certification testing and reporting to meet both engineering and government requirements. He led the successful introduction of the Changjiang motorcycle brand in South Africa in 1999, establishing a small assembly and customisation factory. After moving to Australia, Dereck applied his management skillset as a fuel/retail dealer but, following his passion, succeeded in achieving the type approval of the CJ brand in Australia and in 2022, was appointed as the exclusive importer and distributor of the CJ brand in Australia and New Zealand.

Whether riding, restoring, customising or building from nuts and bolts to complete machine, Dereck brings a wealth of technical knowledge, hands-on expertise and customer service experience to the brand and is excited about introducing Changjiang motorcycles to the market. Dereck is supported by his wife Deborah, who brings her marketing and communications expertise to the team.
